I just picked up four 128MB DIMMs from OWC (EDO, to match the previous four
DIMMs) to bring my S900 to up to 1GB of RAM. After installing the RAM, I
pressed the CUDA button and restarted. The machine booted but froze just at
the start of loading extentions - rebooted again with the same results. It
was a hard lock up - the only way I could shut down was to give it the old
"three finger salute" and then press the power button on the front.

I recalled a discussion on this list a couple of years ago re: people who
had problems getting the full 1GB RAM installed on their computers, so I
took out one of the DIMMS and -voila - the machine booted fine.

Wondering if perhaps the one stick of RAM I removed was problematic, I
reinstalled it and took out another DIMM - the machine still booted up fine.

After several hours of troubleshooting here are the results:

1) Tested the RAM with TechTool Pro and everything came up OK. Tried
swapping the remaining stick of RAM with one of the "just tested" sticks and
everything still checked out OK.

2) The machine DOES boot up with the full complement of RAM when booting up
from the secondary backup OS9.1 partition on my ATA drive, so:

3) It seems that problem only happens with my OS9.2.2 partition (on the
internal SCSI bus) and all eight DIMMs installed. Take out any one DIMM and
everything boots fine.

Upon further investigation, it appears that the culprit is my MaxPower
extension (for the NewerTech G4/400 card). It seems rather bizarre that it
works fine with 912MB of RAM but locks up with 1.01GB of RAM.

Any ideas?
