As far as I know, as long as we're talking about an
AppleTalk printer, this is all true.

No ... because of the wireless side of the router.
You have 2 issues: networking an AppleTalk printer,
and a piece of hardware that doesn't play nice with
AppleTalk.
These products allow the stand alone use of your
AppleTalk printer on the network so that there is no
"host computer" required to print from any other
computer on the network. You can think of it like they
assign an IP address to printers without one. They are
a bridge between ethernet and AppleTalk only and have
nothing to do with the fact that the router blocks
AppleTalk packets. My guess is this solution will be
faster over all than sharing, and the "host" machine
won't experience a performance hit while someone else
is printing. In fact the S900 won't even have to be
turned on because the printer won't be connected to it
by the serial connection anyway. I haven't actually
tried printer sharing thru the serial port for a long
time tho.

Unlike the Linksys, the Airport supports AppleTalk and
passes those packets thru to the wired side where the
printer would reside, whether on not you "share" it or
use it as a stand alone network device. Using this
should solve the blockage issue for wireless computers
on the network.

I don't have any wireless devices myself, but I assume
that your ability to use the printer from the S900
either thru a serial port or (with a bridge) over
wired ethernet would be unaffected. It should add the
ability to use the iBook though.

Their PCs would need to speak AppleTalk to print to
the AppleTalk printer. Some versions of Windows
support this without the addition of further software.
Others do not, and I'm not a PC person, so I don't
know which do off the top of my head. Rather than
steer you wrong, I will let others more knowlegeable
in PC address this. If you know what operating systems
they are running, I can check and let you know. My
suspicion is that XP does not, but like I said, I'd
have to check.

Well, since I'm not a wireless guy either, I'll also
leave that for someone else as well. You really have
some interesting issues. A cross platform network is a
tricky thing. I suspect an all Mac network would have
no issues once you add the Airport. They all speak the
same language. Please remember that I don't actually
HAVE any wireless devices amd am giving you advice
based on what I've read at the Asante support forum.
BTW, I just checked eBay for Dayna Etherprints and
found 3. The "mini"is the best, but the guy wants alot
for it. It will probably support up to 8 AppleTalk
devices. (It's hard to tell from the picture if it's
plain, a Plus, or a T Plus.It looks like a T Plus from
the photo on the box.) The EP Plus supports 4, and
the other supports only 2. Note that the Plus comes
without power supply. If you're only going to hook up
one thing, just go for the plain EP. These things are
cool and work really well. I've used them for years
and have several.Basically you plug them in and they work.
