I pcked up a PowerLogix ZIF Carrier at the local Goodwill a few months ago and last night started testing it with an Apple 333 MHz ZIF card.

I've been using an XLR8 ZIF Carrier with this same Apple CPU for a few weeks, running stably at 395/197.5/52.6 MHz. This is under OS 9.1.

At first blush the Powerlogix seemed to work okay at 60 MHz, but then I had some crashes. So I dropped down to 55 and then to 52.5 MHz. Still having problems, I dropped the speed from 393 to 367 which is well below where it was working with the XRL8 carrier. However, the system freezes persisted.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has similar experiences with the PowerLogix that might save me trying every variation I can think of.

Possibilities that occur to me are that perhaps the PowerLogix board is a bit thinner and isn't as secure in the CPU slot. I have my S900 MB in a tower PC case so there's no support for the upper end of the CPU card. This could put stress on the CPU slot and the card's fit in the slot. Another possibility is that I used a different heat sink with the Powerlogix. However, the G3 utility was reporting lower temperatures (10 C cooler) with the PowerLogix and P2 heat sink (it has fans) than it reported with the XLR8 Carrier and its flat plain heat sink.

Another possibility is that I've been using the XLR8 CP and Extension with both cards, but I don't think that should matter. I could switch to the PowerLogix software, but electronically, I don't think that the software should be able to tell what kind of Carrier card is installed.

I suppose another possibily is that there is some subtle defect in the PowerLogix carrier. It was at Goodwill after all.

Anyway, anyone have any relevant experience?
