I forgot to add to my initial message that the CD that came with the ADS Tech card had drivers for earlier versions of OS X, but not for Panther, and I can't find one on their web site. Is that function built-in with later systems?

Yes, the drivers for USB are included in the Mac OSX. However if no USB card is in the machine at the time of the Mac OS install not all the drivers needed are installed. You should be able to install them by doing a custom install for the Mac OS CD. Install as usual and then under custom install jsut pick the files you need. It also used to be possible to download separately from Apple. Often not easy to find files on the Apple site and don't know if they are available for current Mac OS's or not. Since the card does work for some things it does seem like a driver issue. While most USB1 cards work with Mac OS many don't with USB2. Hope this helps Will S
