Well, one difference is that many people nowdays don't use any desktop email client any more (either they use webmail or just social networking messages or instant mesaging of some sort), and surely don't use newsgroups at all. Times change, strangely.

...hmmnn...newsgrouping is my biggest reason for wanting an integrated suite - best way to focus on information exchange with my hobbies.

At work we use Outlook, as I'm sure many corporate clients do...or Entourage...I only use webmail if I'm roaming and away from my own laptop. I specifically won't use social networking sites.
