In my experience, Microsoft does not really put a lot of effort into IMAP. After all these years, the IMAP support in Outlook 2010 is still lacking compared to free products. Their goal, after all, is to push you into a fully-MS solution (Exchange + Outlook) using their proprietary protocol.
