I can live with that, Paul.

I wonder if Geoff is still with us??

Sorry, Geoff, for some reason, I thought it was you that had had this
problem, but now that I re-examine this thread, I see I meant " I
wonder
if Larry is still with us??"!!

Yes, Daniel, I'm sill with you. You haven't heard from me because I was
off doing other things, and because the replies to my original question
weren't very helpful (in contrast to the usual experience here). Most
responders seemed to think I had some sort of problem involving multiple
profiles.

The problem actually is multiple Mail, Local and related msf folders
(each with a slightly different name), all in my current profile. The
question is simply "can I delete all but the most current folders?".
(See original post for all the folder names.)

Thank you for your interest, and all your help in this group over the
years.

Thank you, Larry, I'm sure we each try our best to help!

Has your problem been solved yet, or are you still looking for help??

Daniel . . .

I think it's been solved. I've moved all the "old" folders to
newly-created Hold folders in my profile. Note: "old" means those that
don't have any reasonably current dates on any of the files they
contain. The "surviving" (not moved) Mail and News folders are those to
which the Local Folder settings are pointing (don't see a similar
setting for the "Local Folders" listing the accounts pane). All seems to
be working well so far.

Do you think that putting these Hold folders in the profile is O.K? Or
should they be moved far away?

Larry

Depends what your next plans are?? You could move the mail in the "Hold" folders into the inbox, sent, draft, etc., folders of your mail. This would allow you to delete any duplicates. Then you could divide your inbox & sent folders into monthly/yearly archived folders. Then move these folders out of your mail profile into, maybe, your Local Folders!

This is the way I have my mail, dating back to 1999, so that, if I need access to my old stuff, it's there, without meaning that my mail profile folders are huge.
