I did not understand it either. Since it is so obscure, perhaps, in the
release notes, there should be a (very) large information box with
instructions to disable promises.
From what I could get from that page, the promise depends on the value
of a proxy, which I gather is a kind of variable. So, I guess it would
be like:
if x=12 then <do something>
