Replacing prefs.js did the trick.

I've been using SeaMonkey since the very early days. Usually Firefox was installed on the same machine. My subjective impression after having this happen on a fair number of occasions is that javascript in SeaMonkey is noticeably more fragile than it is in Firefox.
