1.  On the Thunderbird window, select your E-mail account.  Right-click
and select Settings in the pull-down context menu.

2.  If the account is collapsed in the Account Settings window (the
little triangle is pointing directly right), select the triangle to
expand the account.

3.  On the Server Settings pane, do one of the following:
a.  Uncheck the checkbox for "Leave messages on server".
or
b.  Check the checkboxes for both "Leave messages on server" and "Until
I delete them" IN THAT ORDER.

4.  Select the OK button.
