This is actually a common problem. With [View > Layout > Wide View] in Thunderbird, F8 toggles between showing and hiding the message pane; I use it quite frequently. When reading message on the Web (e.g., a forum instead of a newsgroup), I often forget that I am in SeaMonkey and not Thunderbird and hit F8 to collapse the view of messages. Ooops! that means I lose Prefbar. Usually, I forget which function key did it and instead go to [View > Show/Hide] to select and check Prefbar Toolbar. You might wonder why I use Thunderbird instead of SeaMonkey's mail-news capability. I have four SeaMonkey profiles and switch among them frequently. This is because certain Web sites that I often visit require a setup different from my preferred setup. For example, I disable popups, allow images and cookies only from the domain I am visiting, and enable AdBlock Plus; the financial institutions where I have accounts have Web sites that want popups, all images and cookies, and cannot accept the AdBlock Plus blockages. Thus, I have a profile that is only for financial transactions at those institutions. While I am switching browser profiles, I do not want to lose my current E-mail or newsgroup session. Thus, I use Thunderbird, which remains unaffected by switching SeaMonkey profiles. -- David E. Ross I am sticking with SeaMonkey 2.26.1 until saved passwords can be used when autocomplete=off.
