When I go to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ I'm getting

That's new.

They must be getting desperate to stop people running away to other
browsers.

The plugin check code is tracked using bugzilla, so if you ever what to
know why a change was made you can search bugzilla. In this case, I
found <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1121456>.

Making very pessimistic incorrect assumptions only misleads others, and
doesn't help the people you are replying to. Please stop it.

There is that much difference between Firefox and other browsers using it? How are they getting the statistics? If people have telemetry disabled, do they still get their numbers as well?
