I have seen this issue several times. I don't know what the issue is, but isn't there a time that should time out iff something fails to finish loading?

BTW the Slashdot link you posted WFM, the throbber stops after the page loads. I wonder if the issue occurs randomly? Does the problem occur ever time a problem page is visited?
