Sounds crazy, but I can't find the formatting toolbar in

I'm not worth bothering with.
I use plain text for newsgroups, but I'm still curious.
knowledge there is no format toolbar in SeaMonkey at all; there is
only
a format menu in the compose window and that only appears when you
are
composing in HTML.

So if you wanted to send an email or post to a newsgroup in
formatted
text or with other features such as bullet points, you would
create it
in Composer and paste it into the email or newsgroup parts of the
suite.
Is that correct?
On my machine, there's a formatting toolbar directly under the
Subject:
field when I compose/reply in HTML. As with other SM toolbars, it
can be
hidden/revealed:
(in an HTML composition window) View | Show/Hide... Formatting
Toolbar
If the checkbox is already in the "on" position, look where I
told you
for a little speckly rectangle, just under the word "Subject:," and
click it to toggle it back on.
There's no formatting toolbar in a plain text composition window
because
it would be pointless.
The one place I could find in Preferences to select plain text vs.
HTML is Mail & Newsgroups/Send Format/Send the message in formatted
text (html) anyway.....
So I checked that, closed and reopened. Assuming I'm now composing in
HTML, I can find no format toolbar, including under View-Show/Hide-
or in the customize box.
It might be that you need to have email set up for that toolbar to
appear in the newsgroup GUI.
(back in plain text to compose and send this post)
Select the Account, click View settings for this account > Composition
& Addressing, put a check mark in the box for "Compose messages in
HTML format.
You should see the formatting toolbar underneath where you enter the
Subject.
Why do you want to see it in plain text composition?
I have for my account Composition & Addressing, - "Compose messages in
HTML format".
All goes well ... when composing the html-formatting bar is present
...
then I send the mail, and SM propose me to send in "html and plain
text"
or in "html only" or in "plain text only".
When I choose in "plain text only" .. the mail is sent in plain text
only - so far, so good.
Then, per exemple I need to sent this mail to another friend, so I do
"Message" - "Edit Message as New" ...
AND the html-formatting bar is NOT present evenwhile my option
"Composition & Addressing" is "Compose messages in HTML format".
So I cannot add some html gadget for my "another friend".
Ray, why don't you reverse this procedure?? Send the HTML Composed
e-mail to your mate that needs it in HTML first, then "Message" -
"Edit Message as New" ... and then when you're asked if you want to
send in HTML, PL or Both, *then* select PL.
Good suggestion!
That is what I did with my test posts in m.test.
The first post "Test" was composed in HTML and sent as plain text.
Went to edit it as new from my Sent folder and it had no HTML
formatting bar.
The next post "HTML Test" was sent in HTML and plain text. Edit as new
had the HTML formatting bar.
The following "HTML Test" was the previous post from my Sent folder,
Edited as new had the HTML formatting bar, did no editing and sent as
plain text.
So Ray could compose in HTML, send to the HTML recipient, use Edit as
new and edit out the HTML gadget if necessary, or just send as is in
plain text.
Sorry, but I was thinking to send also this mail to another friend ...
AFTER sending the first in plaintext.
I did not think about the second send at the beginning ...
Anyway, I was expecting that SM present me ALWAYS the html-bar because
my "Compose messages in HTML format" option is set.
Composing a new mail OR editing a mail as new are BOTH a "Compose
message"....
