There are times when different versions do matter for the profile. For example, there was a time a while back (early in 2.x)

I did acknowledge the 1X to 2X change replied to.

And, my profiles - of which I have several - are not vulnerable to app changes because they are not part of the app. And the mail files - of which I have well over a hundred - are not vulnerable to profile changes because they are not part of the profile.

How'd you manage that? AFAIK mail files are stored in the profile folder. I have about 5 GB of them, and they're all in my profile folder.

Most people treat a computer like a washing machine; turn it on, do what is obvious. That is, they stick with the defaults, which you have done. Be brave, poke at it a bit. I did my current setup in early Netscape. No one showed me anything, I just poked around "under the covers".

I have explained it here several times. Once you get the profile out of the app, and the mail out of the profile, you can then place and name all of the sub-directories as you chose. And you can have as many profiles as you wish. I have one that allows me to read existing mail but does not download any new mail. And yes you need to understand sub-directories and files.

First hint, each mail account points to where the mail files will be stored. And you get to set the pointing.

The only profile break was between 1X and 2X, and that was a long time ago.
