Well, you did quote SeaMonkey help; "SM's help says, "Advertise

SeaMonkey will add information on Lightning being installed and which
version, thus calendaring websites and/or remote calendar services can
customize their communication."."
So for those websites I guess it is needed. For other websites it isn't
needed.
I would just use Lightning with Mail & Newsgroups and disable "Advertise
Lightning installation". The option doesn't even appear if Lightning
isn't installed.
