i had a similar behaviour (no menu, browser area etc.) after the update.
The reason was the missing language pack.
The installation of the downloaded language pack xpi file was possible
without problems by opening the file in "--safe-mode".
Afterwards I restarted Seamonkey and everything worked again.
It it was/is the language pack should be fixed in 2.53.4. Actually 2.53.3 but
given that the 2.53.2 language packs have the wrong max version the fix will
only be effective in 2.53.4.
