I'm upgrading from 2.49.5
Didn't know anything about 50,51 or 52.
When checking for updates with v2.49 it still says none available.

There wasn't a 2.50, 2.51 or 2.52.

The release notes for 2.48 also say in big red letters.

"Automatic upgrades from previous versions are, for most configurations, disabled for this release. Please download the full installer from the downloads section and install SeaMonkey 2.49.1 manually over the previous version."

REF: <http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.48/>

That is also in the current release notes for SeaMonkey 2.53.3.

The trick is to find the release notes and *read* them before installing a new version.

Reading the first post in the announcement thread and following the 2nd link is a good start.

Maybe you could suggest to Edmund that the links be posted this way.

This version of SeaMonkey makes changes to your profile that can't be reverted in the case where you want to go back to an earlier version. You MUST absolutely do a full backup of your profile before using this application.

I never saw anything like this on previous versions.

A similar wording was in all previous releases notes starting with 2.53.1.

Is it something to be REALLY concerned with?

Not much if you are upgrading from 2.53.2 and have no language pack installed.
