On the topic of media databases...
Environmental groups (large and small) may want to keep an eye on Green
Media Toolshed. http://www.greenmediatoolshed.org. Scheduled to launch in
early 2001, they're a project of the Biodiveristy Project that will offer
access to a corporate-qualtity media contact management system at a very low
cost. In their initial rollout, they'll leverage the Vocus media system
(http://www.vocus.com), which is a big corporate-focused tool that has a
huge backend media contact database and some very sophisticated
communications management tools.
There's not much on their site right now, but their director, Marty Kearns,
can send you an excellent background paper, and they're well on their way
towards a successful launch. Cost will be sliding scale.
If media work is a large part of what you do, this may be a very intruiging
tool.
best,
jon
