Thanks for the info on recreating the groups file. It worked but there are
some strange things in the process. At several points it created a groups_
.102 file instead of a groups_.102 file. I have not had the time to repeat
it enough times to find out the complete circumstances but I am fairly
convinced that there is a typo of the filename somewhere in the processing
of group files. Note the space in the first file name.
