Bob,
I appreciate your remarks. Um - perhaps you didn't read all the way to
the end the message (he said as politely as he could - really!)

I started with a working version of ebase on the mac. It just didn't
have up-to-date information, but it was working!

I copied the working folder into a copy. I removed all the .103 files
which just left the "ebase" file itself. Then I copied the .103 files
from the pc (which has the up-to-date files), changed the type and
creator bits, and tried to run it. It didn't work. 

The original (with bad data) set still works in the original folder. 

I must still be missing some vital step, or am deleting too much, or
something. 

Or I'm mis-reading your comments...
