You've taken care of everything I can think of. I think now that you 
have run into a limitation of the runtime. That is, that the runtime 
application can't recognize files not developed with the other 
platform. I downloaded a Windows version of ebase and tried to open 
the files with a Mac runtime and experienced the same faults you 
found, although FileMaker happily opens the Windows files.

I tried that and the a Mac runtime, while running Mac files, 
recognizes Windows files to import data from. So that's a possibility.
