I've used Pidgin for years on XP and Win7, and each time, Pidgin loads
up from closed to a BL window (with no accounts auto-connecting which
WILL slow things down like mentioned before, but not because of the
application itself) in less than 10 seconds consistently. If you use the
"-n" switch for the app, you'll disable auto-connecting upon startup and
thus will see the app load faster. Keep in mind that the issue you are
seeing is dependent on your environment, accounts, and plugins as well.

Mine (under linux ubuntu 9.10) opens almost instantly. Connects to icq
and gmail in about two seconds and to msn takes up to 20 seconds.
