This should work:
1. Open Pidgin.2. Accounts > Manage Accounts > Add... button.3. In Protocol
drop-down list, select Google Talk. Enter your username in
the username and password in their respective fields.4. Go to the Advanced tab.
Check "Force old (port 5223) SSL". In the"Connect port" field, type "443".
"Connect server" as "talk.google.com"

(By the way: I could also connect to login.icq.com on port 5190, but only
with "use ssl"; although this is not the typical ssl port on icq, it would work
just fine - tested it.)
