Thanks a lot. For me you're the man of the day, at least. Thank you so much, now I am finally able to connect to Jabber servers after a long time. It works perfect with your settings. Appreciate that! Dagobert Duck ----- Original Message ----- From: Akash To: Dagobert Duck Cc: support@pidgin.im Sent: Thursday, March 18, 2010 2:47 PM Subject: Re: Jabber through http/port 80???
This should work: 1. Open Pidgin.2. Accounts > Manage Accounts > Add... button.3. In Protocol drop-down list, select Google Talk. Enter your username in the username and password in their respective fields.4. Go to the Advanced tab. Check "Force old (port 5223) SSL". In the"Connect port" field, type "443". "Connect server" as "talk.google.com" 5. In the Proxy tab, make sure you have Gnome Proxy Settings selected.6.. You're done. Only port 80 is open, connections to hosts behind the proxy, that offer SSL connection (port 443) are also possible. Does anybody know, how I could connect to a Jabber Server, -better- Gtalk???? I already tried "jabber80.com", but that cr.. didn't work at all. (By the way: I could also connect to login.icq.com on port 5190, but only with "use ssl"; although this is not the typical ssl port on icq, it would work just fine - tested it.)
