Hi Nate, what's the message you receive on the bottom of the main screen? I think it's regarding the Gmail settings, if you enabled 2-step Verification in your Gmail account you must enable App passwords for any app you use [other than google's official apps] on any device [phone, laptop, pc etc].
Go to https://myaccount.google.com/ and create your app password for Pidgin and put that password in Account Settings in Pidgin [instead of normal password of your account] Attention: be sure you copy generated password before closing that window Worked for me!
