No, patents.  They are invalidated when prior
art is uncovered

I don't know of any.  MAG published the details
of HOA long ago, so the prior art is well
established.  What conceivably could be
patented is novel techniques for decoding (as
were Vienna decoders for first-order, and
Trifield for stereo).
