Have you looked at The Morning Line? It was installed in Seville for a
year, then Istanbul, the Vienna. Now it's moving to Karlsruhe pretty
well permanently. 56 speakers, 6 "rooms", up to a couple of hundred
soundfiles playing simultaneously, interaction for those composers who
need it (via ultrasonic sensors), remote monitoring and control, time
scheduled playouts, real time panning - all running off a quad core
Mac (can't remember exact specs but from 2008) with motu audio
interfaces. There's an AES paper and the sponsoring organisation's
website is http://www.tba21.org/pavilions/103?category=pavilions
