Have you looked at The Morning Line? It was installed in Seville for a year, then Istanbul, the Vienna. Now it's moving to Karlsruhe pretty well permanently. 56 speakers, 6 "rooms", up to a couple of hundred soundfiles playing simultaneously, interaction for those composers who need it (via ultrasonic sensors), remote monitoring and control, time scheduled playouts, real time panning - all running off a quad core Mac (can't remember exact specs but from 2008) with motu audio interfaces.
