Aha, now I get it… there are few permanent sound art pieces around.
I was commissioned once to make one for a passage under my local
library and then it got vetoed 2 months before the presentation date by some
angry bureaucrat.
Some of Max Neuhaus' permanent pieces are multichannel, but
they are usually in public spaces. http://www.max-neuhaus.info
In Rotterdam there is this: http://www.rotterdamsuitburo.nl/soundpiece
http://v2.nl/lab/projects/soundpiece
a multi-channel speaker system hidden under the floor of the Schouwburgplein
unfortunately it's normally wired as 4 channels. It was originally made for an
art piece
and since then gets used variously for poetry, muzak (!) and occasional art
projects.
