Okay, Bob - but which do you think sounds "best" and in this case I
specifically mean "most accurate", i.e. closest to the sound I would have
heard in the original acoustic? You see, I am not interested (in this case)
 in the "spaciousness" or even the "envelopment" (whatever the heck that
means) of the micing technique or its tone colour or whatever - what I want
is to hear the spacious/envelopment/tone of the original acoustic event.
For me, that's the coincident cardioids. Blumlein can, indeed, be beautiful
but I tend to find it a bit too reverberant (compared to the original)
Hypers are a bit less and a good compromise in many cases, but, sorry,
cardioids are only boring (to me) if the original is boring. _I_ tend to
find spaced mics, especially things like the Decca Tree can make exciting
music in a great acoustic boring. :-)
