Explore the SPARTA suite, specifically the AmbiENC plugin to encode virtual sources to ambisonics (up to 7th order), then render the resulting ambisonics stream with the AmbiBIN plugin. AmbiENC already have a 5.0 preset and you can add your own. AmbiBIN have a few options to enhance the spatial perception, which is useful when using a generic HRIR set. It won't be perfect (of the best possible option), but it could be good enough.
