Oh yeah.  I tried that once, but I found that a Casio TeleMemo 30
is really more pleasant to use for email.  It has the letters on
the keypad, and there's no dangy cable to break off.  Since the
battery can't provide enough current to drive an external modem,
you must generate the appropriate tones through the piezo buzzer.
But I'm sure that's no challenge for a man of your talents.
