This does not seem to be the case with Opera.  If you load a page
iwth images turned "off" it is far faster.  Then if you suddenly turn
image loading "on" you have to sit there waiting while they download.
I do understand, that Opera isn't an option for those using DOS.
  I've used Nettamer and Lynx myself many many times.
But if you're under Windows of some sort, Opera might be to your
liking.
