Another option is a small 'rescue' partition (ext2) which
boots from DOS using loadlin.exe.  I prefer this method
because it keeps the Linux filesystem safe from accidental
corruption from DOS.  Even if the DOS partition is completely
deleted, the Linux partition is unaffected.

You can easily fit all the usual rescue functions into a 5meg
partition, but I use a 10meg partition.  This gives me room
for a proper mini-distribution (including lynx, dial-up ppp,
and firewall/routing).  I put this 10meg partition on most of
my DOS systems to provide basic Linux functionality.  BTW this
mini-version of Linux runs MUCH faster than the mainstream
distributions, so it's ideal for survPCs.
