Ah, bubble memory.  That development showed a lot of promise... and got
hyped up even more.  Unfortunately, it remained expensive per bit,
because the bit-cells were quite large, and its access times remained
slow, even compared to the ROMs of the day. If the access times had
come down, I expect that we'd be using it instead of CompactFlash
today.
