I'll agree that IRC is very dangerous for somebody who hasn't the slightest
idea about how to go about "battening down the hatches".  The person on the
other end doesn't have to know much more than how to do a simple "/whois
username" to start their attack on your machine.  It's still no more
dangerous to somebody who has taken the time to secure their machine.  There
ought to be a warning in the IRC servers MOTD that warns people to make sure
their machine is secure before venturing forth (especially if you plan to
visit someplace like #hacking....hehe).
