Actually, if you think this list has a lot of issues, you should see the
RedHat and Debian lists. Don't be intimidated if it seems overwhelming,
it's not that bad. But if you are a beginner you came to the right place
to learn. As to your question: "is it the result of the suse dist or Linux
itself?" I'd think Linux has a learning curve, and S.u.S.E. has it's own
system of doing things that you have to get to know. I think most of the
problems are Linux related, not S.u.S.E. related, but that I think if you
don't mind learning and taking to time, you'll find that Linux is MOSTLY a
fun os to use. You're right you'll probably have to get some literature,
just to familiarize yourself with things, but don't be daunted, I don't
think it's as difficult as it might appear from the outside.:-) 

I hear alot of people recommending 'Running Linux' as a good starting
book. I'd concur. Perhaps check it out and  and read up and see if it's
something you want to try. If it is, there are plenty of great people on
this list and others that will be happy to assist when and if you have
problems.
