Hello Chris and everyone else that responded,
I've got my drive working, in the end. After a few kernel compiles and a
very unsuccessful day I remebered the sticker on the drive.
The drive has 3 Jumpers pads, and was delivered without jumpers. The
sticker said "slave" for this config. There is another config (master,
slave, cableselect) named a-master a-slave... The difference was that a
jumper had to be placed on the second pad. curious me tried and voila
here comes hdd.
All these things I did -SCSI emulation- were for personal training in
knowledge. (could have done well without :)) A memory comes back: I
*never* liked IDE devices. Particulary when you had a diskdrive that you
wanted to use. Usually, there were no indications about geometry, jumper
settings and long nights of trial and error. Oposed to this is SCSI. The
worst case I remember was the uncertainty which of the three jumpers
could be LSB. A short trial and boot, a look at the messages.... all
easy.
My old hatred is coming back....
Of course, the documentation that comes with the drive is best used as
toilet paper, and the customer registration / questioneer leaves no room
for such complaints.
