Before knocking our friends at SuSE,(or Red Hat), this is a German distribution first.
Excellent engineering and work being done in this version and plenty of help.
wvdial and XISP are enough for the US users, and non-European users.
The LDP HOWTO for PPP is at

and is good place to get started, much better than any manual.
