This surely is not the verbatim message.

There are many possible problems: Do you hava a SCSI system and forgot to
compile the SCSI driver in. Maybe you forgot the needed filesystem(s).
Many other possibilites.

In order to be able to help you we need to know:

- description of the hardware
- the exakt error message (not some interpretation)
- the config of the kernel
