you can save a lot of time by creating the config you like with 'make
menuconfig' then 'make dep clean bzImage modules modules_install' it runs
the whole lot instead of issueing the 6 separate commands listed below!
Lenz: Is there any disadvantage to using my suggested method?

Make sure, that you use the correct install path for lilo and the
Makefile. By default, the kernel will be installed as /vmlinuz, while LILO
is looking for /boot/vmlinuz. Either correct /etc/lilo.conf or the
variable INSTALL_PATH in /usr/src/linux/Makefile

This seems to be a common problem with 2.2.2. I still run 2.2.1, though...
