We have several machines with a 7895 here and they are working without
problems. Are you sure there's no hardware problem? Did you check cabling
and termination?
There is also a bootdisk available on
ftp.suse.com:/pub/suse_update/suse60/disks/aic7xxx, which contains a newer
version of the driver, but from your description I guess it's a hardware
problem.
