One of the nice things about Linux is that the system files do not need
to live somewhere on the first 1024 cylinders of the first hard drive. You
could, if you want, dedicate your entire first drive to Win and the
second for Linux(or even part of the second). Just point LILO(mbr or
floppy) after the install to /dev/hda? to boot Win on the first hard
drive and /dev/hdb? to boot Linux on the second. You can easily dual boot
with this configuration, just install Win first and then Linux. Also, once
your set up, edit /etc/fstab something
like this...
/dev/hda? vfat defaults 0 0
for each of your windows partitions and you can work on your Windows files
from within Linux. You can also set up the mount points during the
install on SuSE 5.2-5.3. I am currently running a 3.2G as the first drive
and a 2.1G as second with Solaris on the first and Linux on the second,
I've also had similar configs with Win95,98 and NT on the first and Linux
on the second with no problems. Yast should recognize everything(for
Win95) for you and simplify everyting reguarding LILO a great deal. You
can even avoid a Windows reinstall with a third party partition utility;
just delete the Linux partition on the first HD resize and install Linux
on the second. Linux is so versatile the possibilities are endless.
Good Luck, Mike
