I have recently bought a Clor Stylus 740 and had the same problem. This fix
is to upgrade to the latest kernel. I was running 2.0.35 but once I upgraded
to 2.0.36 the print speed increased significantly. I am also running the
latest version of Ghostscript. (5.50)
Now all I have to work out is how to get the printer to print at 14400 and
on different types of paper.
Hope this helps
