[SuSE Linux] cd-rom opening

Something in my suse 5.3 setup is locking my cdrom closed.
Mount dosen't show the cdrom mounted, but the slide won't move until I
am in the shutdown sequence or in M$.
Can anyone direct me to the culprit?
