Kinda off-topic, off course...but one of the reasons that OS/2 can't easily and
currently go open source (even if IBM wanted to,
which is doubtful: OS/2 still makes considerable money for IBM in markets where it's
entrenched), is that M$ *already* owns
chunks of OS/2 code (and not just winos2 code either) dating back to the early days of
the IBM/Microsoft joint project, when
the early OS was being touted as "Microsoft OS/2". IBM can't open-source what's
proprietary to Microsoft --all surviving M$
code would have to be rewritten.
IBM really used to do some dopey deals. If you want open source, better all in all
to pin your trust to Linux; certainly don't
hold your breath waiting for open-source OS/2.
