I tried the patch attached to this bug:

...but it didn't change anything. That was before I was using
netconsole, though... I wonder if anything useful is printed, or if the
acpi methods even get called.

Can examining the DSDT tell me that? I haven't even started learning
about this acpi stuff.

i'm not quite that brave. :)

I wonder if the generic ide driver might handle suspend for this chipset
better than amd74xx. Seems doubtful, but you never know.
