This sounds a bit confusing since s2ram clearly does not need any swap
partition and no config file :-)

If you are talking about s2disk, you probably need to check your initrd.
There have also been some issues with SATA drives not correctly flushed
(and so the image header apparently never actually made it onto the disk).
You could verify if you are hit by these by using "shutdown method = reboot"
which will reboot the machine after suspend instead of powering it off.
