On the machine here: $ s2ram -i sys_vendor = "Fujitsu Siemens" sys_product = "P6VAP-AP" sys_version = " " bios_version = "6.00 PG"
s2ram works just fine whether run from X or from the console. s2disk works also, *but only as long as X is not started*. Running s2disk when X is not startet will show me all the status feedback, line after line that s2disk is compressing the image etc. then I hear a click and the machine sleeps with most of the lights off. All this takes a fair while (5sec or so). On the other hand, when I start X I can run s2disk from X, or I can switch back to the console and run s2disk there, with the same result: * s2disk will in the case of X switch back to the console itself (in the case of running it from the console it will just stay there) * displays a few lines of text, but to fast to read them. It's visible just for a split second before ... * the video signal will go off (the monitor will tell me that there's no signal) * the machine keeps the lights on but is no more accessible * no hard disk action is visible (via the disk light bulp) or audible * the machine stays in this state indefinitively Here's some system info: * # uname -a Linux tpo2 2.6.18-4-686 #1 SMP Mon Mar 26 17:17:36 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux * Debian etch machine, currently again running testing * # dpkg -s uswsusp | grep Version Version: Version: 0.6~cvs20070202-1 * # dpkg -s xserver-xorg | grep Version Version: 1:7.1.0-18 * # dpkg -s nvidia-glx-legacy | grep Version Version: 1.0.7184-3 * # dpkg -s nvidia-kernel-legacy-2.6.18-4-686 | grep Version Version: 1.0.7184+6 * # lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. Any help or suggestion? *t PS: To help debugging I'd suggest to add an option to make s2* write its output to a file on disk and to fsync the data. There's nothing useful in the system logs about the *suspend to disk* phase and what apears on the screen is flashing by to quickly to read it. -- ----------------------------------------------------------- Tomas Pospisek http://sourcepole.com - Linux & Open Source Solutions ----------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
