On the machine here:

$ s2ram -i
     sys_vendor   = "Fujitsu Siemens"
     sys_product  = "P6VAP-AP"
     sys_version  = " "
     bios_version = "6.00 PG"

s2ram works just fine whether run from X or from the console.
s2disk works also, *but only as long as X is not started*.

Running s2disk when X is not startet will show me all the status feedback,
line after line that s2disk is compressing the image etc. then I hear a
click and the machine sleeps with most of the lights off. All this takes a
fair while (5sec or so).

On the other hand, when I start X I can run s2disk from X, or I can switch
back to the console and run s2disk there, with the same result:

* s2disk will in the case of X switch back to the console itself (in the
   case of running it from the console it will just stay there)
* displays a few lines of text, but to fast to read them. It's visible
   just for a split second before ...
* the video signal will go off (the monitor will tell me that there's no
   signal)
* the machine keeps the lights on but is no more accessible
* no hard disk action is visible (via the disk light bulp) or audible
* the machine stays in this state indefinitively

Here's some system info:

Is there something I can do to debug this further? Any help or suggestion?

PS: To help debugging I'd suggest to add an option to make s2* write its
     output to a file on disk and to fsync the data. There's nothing useful
     in the system logs about the *suspend to disk* phase and what apears
     on the screen is flashing by to quickly to read it.
