That's true, I just tried both to confirm:

1. switching on a text console (Alt+Ctrl+2):
        s2ram -f works fine, wake-up as well.

2. I a X-Term window on GNOME desktop the same
        s2ram -f woks.

Some additional info:
Power consumption is :
        idle desktop 84 W
        s2ram 13 W (CPU-fan also stops)
        after wake-up 79 W

The reduced power after wake-up is due to the fact, that my
PCI-TV-Card does not work any more (Hauppauge PVR150), but all other
things resume correctly, like:
harddisk
USB (tested with usbmsd device, mouse)
network (onboard NVIDIA)

So for me it is (almost) perfect.
Remark: the 'stand-by' and 'suspend' optins supplied by the Ubuntu
dektop in the shutdown menue are useless. Wake-up is performed by 1
short push on the power-button of the PC/Power Supply.

Ingo
