Dana Tim wasn't proud, he apologised to the list and said he was wrong. The farmer you're defending showed all the hallmarks of an uninformed bigot, and very little in the way of manners. What he didn't agree with (though it seemed he had nothing to back up his view) he termed "babble", if you recall. Which it wasn't - even if it was wrong (which it wasn't), an opposing view is not "babble". It seems to me that "the true condition of the ..... farmer" (fill in the name of any valley or plain in the world) is always something special, unique and utterly misunderstood and misrepresented. And indeed, that usually turns out to be the case. :-) (I think you could also substitute more or less whatever you like for "farmer" though.)
